Pitt, Jolie Gave More Than $6.8 Million to Charity Last Year

In 2008, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gave more than $6.8 million to charities, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which has obtained a 2008 tax return for their Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
That's more than double what they gave in 2007.

According to the Reporter, their Jolie-Pitt foundation earned just over $13 million -- half of which they handed over to various charities.

The biggest recipients of their list: Global Health ($2 million), Human Rights Watch ($1 million), Brad's Make it Right Foundation ($1 million), which has been building eco-friendly homes for Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans.

They also gave $500,000 to the Armed Services YMCA of the U.S. Army; $50,000 to the Springfield, Missouri Public Schools (Pitt's hometown); and roughly a million dollars to projects in Cambodia, the country from which they adopted their first child, Maddox, now 8.

I don't know why people think they are saints because they contribute to humanitarian work and give millions of dollars away. There are other celebrities such as Matt Damon, Mia Farrow, Katie Couric, Oprah Winfrey and many more that contribute to humanitarian work and donate their millions, but who praises them? Oh, that's right. They're not beautiful enough and have the perfect family of 'pick-me up' kids. Yes, let's praise a homewrecker and a man who is KNOWN to cheat on his partners. Just as Gwenyth Paltrow.
This is great and all but considering he was offered $5 million just to do ONE appearance(even if he did change his mind about attending), I'd say that $7 million to them is like one of us donating $100. It's always great for anyone to give to charity but I have a strong suspicion that these 2 stars could be giving so much more. Brad Pitt spent $1 million on one piece of art alone. $7 million is chump change to them so it's all relative. I wish everyone would stop putting this couple up on a pedestal. Yes, she does a lot for refugees(not much for her own people but to each his own) and Brad has built some houses for folks in New Orleans but they are by no means the Mother Theresa of celebrity couples. Not to mention that charitable donations are tax write offs so it's not like they gave up all that money. The people that deserve kudos are the ones that devote the majority of their time to helping others with only a thank you or a hug in return. And also...where's the other half of the $13 million their charity pulled in?! Why isn't anyone asking about that instead of cheering them for giving only $7 million of the 13 mil? They're only after publicity and have done an excellent job creating these false images of what decent, charitable individuals they both are.

I really admire this couple. They´re donating their money for good causes. And I also respect their choice of selling the baby pics of Shi and the twins to People magazine and giving the money to charity. The other option would have been that some stupid paparazzi would have taken the pics and published them in some rag. Those pics were very artistic and done with good taste. Both Brad and Angie are true humanitarians and I really hope that at least one or two of their children will follow in their parents´ footsteps. God bless this couple and their beautiful family!
so where's the "hard-earned" money they were going to give to charity from their child-exploitation pictures? and don't give me that crap about "that money was taxed." so what if it was? there should at least be 7 million more in there somewhere. and this making the news NOW? it's almost the end of the year! of course, just before that stupid book comes out...

This couple is amazing and I am a huge fan of their work and of their humanitarian work. Looking at the haters in here makes me sick to my stomach. I wish there were more people like Angelina and Brad and less haters who are on here while they are supposed to be working and who never probably donate anything to charity

what part of WRITE OFF do you people not get? its a write off for them and good publicity at the same time. all the celebrities do it. they just dont all photograph themselves and put it in the headlines everytime they do.
They are simply fabulous. Wish there were more people out there, with that kind of money, who would donate. The world would be a better place. Whoever wrote the Maddox comment is a psycho-loser. If that's the kind of things that you think come out of his mouth, then you are crazy and need counseling!
Because Brad Pitt pays off the tabloids and owns shares in more than a few of them. He owns the media, they don't call him out for underaged girlfriends and the media tends to bash all his women that he used to get to the top. By the way this 6.8 million doesn't even cover the baby pimping out picture money and they still own the rights to and are making money off that sale. Thats 3 million each not that much. Denzel Washington gave 3 million last year on his own, Beyonce Knowles gave 5 million, Jay Z gave 3 million, Steven Bing gave 4 million. Brangelina once again didn't even give their own money, they gave some baby pimping out pics money and not even that much when you consider they both make 20 million a movie and spend money on jets and unlived in castles all over the globe also all the other stars gave much more than they did without filming it and sending one million reports to the media.
The money for the kids pictures was taxed (as I'm sure everyone realizes). The article was written by Roger Friedman, formerly of Fox News and no fan of Ms. Jolie's. Oh, and you're only allowed a certain percentage of your charitable giving as a tax write off and these two probably hit that around the 2 million mark. Just thought I'd get a head start on the "haters" posts. Oh, and BET, they're letting you post as Maddox again? What a shame.
