Not wasting her time. Carly Fiorina barely gave fellow White House hopeful Donald Trump a second thought after the business mogul took a jab at her physical appearance this week. She briefly responded to his comments during an interview with Fox News Channel on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
“I think those comments speak for themselves,” Fiorina, 61, told host Megyn Kelly. “Honestly, Megyn, I’m not going to spend a single cycle wondering what Donald Trump means. But maybe, just maybe, I’m getting under his skin a little bit, because I am climbing in the polls.” (Fiorina is the only woman running in the GOP presidential race.)
Trump, 69, mocked Fiorina’s appearance while being shadowed by Rolling Stone reporter Paul Solotaroff during his campaign trail. His thoughts are featured in Trump’s RS cover story this week.
“‘Look at that face!'” Trump sneered in the mag. “‘Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?'”
The former Celebrity Apprentice host has found himself in hot water time and time again over the past several months. He famously blasted Kelly after she moderated a GOP debate in Cleveland on Aug. 6. “She is a lightweight. I couldn’t care less about her,” he told CNN at the time. “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.” Trump continued his feud by tweeting that she should go on vacation more often and not host The Kelly File. On Thursday, however, he tried to backtrack his Fiorina comments.
“Probably I did say something like that about Carly. I’m talking about persona. I’m not talking about look,” he told Fox News. “When I get criticized constantly about my hair, nobody does a story about, ‘Oh, isn’t that terrible, they criticized Donald Trump’s hair.'”
