"It's hard being looked at like, 'You only had that job because you were the boyfriend,'" Smart told ET while talking about his career as a choreographer. "Before Jennifer, I did a lot of stuff with other big artists [too]," he added.
The dancer and Lopez called it quits this past June after two and a half years of dating. At the time, a source told Us, "It wasn't an easy decision, but they decided to stay friends...Their relationship couldn't work with the distance. He started trying to establish his own life and career, and she is so focused on hers, and they just couldn't be all about each other anymore."
And focus on his career he did! Smart recently worked with songstress Ariana Grande for her upcoming music video for "Love Me Harder" and is choreographing Nicki Minaj's upcoming tour.
Despite not wanting to be known as J.Lo's ex, Smart told ET: "[Jennifer and I are] great friends. I love her and the kids and they're incredible."
