His character on Game of Thrones had two fingers bitten off on the show, and now Clive Mantle has had part of his ear bitten off in real life. The 55-year-old British actor, who played Greatjon Umber in three episodes of the HBO series in 2011, was allegedly attacked at the Newcastle Travelodge over a noise dispute on March 24, his agent told the BBC.

A spokesman for Mantle said he was pinned to the floor by a 32-year-old man at the Forster Street hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, after he asked his fellow guests to quiet down. While he was pinned, the top part of his ear was bitten off. Fortunately for the actor, surgeons at the city's Royal Victoria Infirmary were able to reattach it.

"He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened. You don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel," the rep told the BBC. "The part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr. Mantle said the police, ambulance, and hospital staff were amazing."

Mantle had just finished a run in The Ladykillers at the Theatre Royal. The play was scheduled to continue on to Salford, England, but a publicist for the show said the actor was unsure as to whether he would be returning to the stage.

"Clive doesn't yet know when he will be able to rejoin the cast and feels he must mention the ambulance crew, police, and hospital staff who were all superb," the spokeswoman said. "Fiery Angel, producers of The Ladykillers, are horrified by the events of Sunday morning and are doing everything they can to ensure Clive has a speedy recovery."

According to the BBC, the man who attacked Mantle has been charged with wounding with intent and will face magistrates next month. Another man has been released on bail in connection with the incident, and a third man was released without charge.
