Danica Patrick Crash: Boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Forces Her Race Car into Coca-Cola 600 Wreck
What happens on the race track, stays on the race track. Danica Patrick was involved in a car crash during the Coca-Cola 600 race in Concord, N.C. on Sunday, May 26 -- and her boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. may be to blame.
The veteran driver was on lap 319 of the race when Stenhouse Jr. bumped into her No. 10 Chevy, sending her car into the back of defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski's vehicle, according to The Associated Press. Both Patrick and Keselowski sustained significant damage and had to take their cars behind the wall for repairs.
Keselowki took the fall for the wreck, however, and later apologized to Patrick, telling reporters that he was "all right."
"I was three-wide with Danica and didn't know it and I cut her off and wrecked her and myself," he said. "I feel bad for her and I send my apologies to her. It's just a long night for the Miller Lite Ford. We'll move on. That's all you can do." Patrick later finished 29th overall.
The popular NASCAR driver finalized her divorce from physical therapist Paul Hospenthal earlier this year after a seven-year marriage. The pair first announced their split back in November 2012, just one day after she was named the most popular driver in the Nationwide Series.
"I am sad to inform my fans that after seven years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," she wrote on Facebook on Nov. 20. "This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
Patrick, 31, and Stenhouse Jr., 25, have been openly dating since her split from Hospenthal, frequently being photographed together at events.
