It's been a tough weekend for Demi Lovato, as she had to say a final goodbye to her late father, Patrick Lovato, who died at the age of 54.
"Today I put my Daddy to rest…hardest thing I've ever done," the 20-year-old wrote on Saturday, June 29. "But I know great things will come of this," she added with the hashtag "LovatoTreatmentScholarship."
Indeed, during an appearance on Good Morning America June 26, the "Heart Attack" singer announced that she founded a new program in her father's memory. The Lovato Treatment Scholarship, which is currently taking applications, will help pay for treatment expenses at Cast Recovery for someone in need.
"I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason,” Demi said on the show. "My father dealt with mental illnesses and he wasn’t able to function in society and that happens to a lot of people."
The former Disney actress, who was estranged with her father during the time of his passing, is trying to find the silver lining during this tough time.
"There's an overwhelming sense of peace knowing my dad is no longer battling his demons anymore and that makes me so happy," she added on June 29 with three hearts.
Patrick and Demi's mom, Dianna De La Garza, divorced in 1994.
