Demi Lovato Tells Fans to "Chill Out" After They Aim Death Threats at Kathy Griffin
You heard her! Demi Lovato told her fans to "chill out" after Lovatics slammed comedian Kathy Griffin with a deluge of vicious tweets on Tuesday, March 25. During a recent Twitter Q&A, Griffin told a fan that Lovato was probably the "biggest douche celebrity" she has ever met. "Plus she should calm the f down bout Lady Gaga gettin barfed on," the 53-year-old Bravo personality quipped.
Lovato, 21, who learned of the now-deleted "douche" comment, took to her Twitter Tuesday and posted a scathing throwback photo of herself, sticking out her tongue and pointing at Griffin, who stood in the background. "Only a 'douche' to people I can't stand," Lovato quipped in a tweet, which she promptly deleted after posting.
The "Neon Lights" singer's fans, however, caught wind of the brewing feud and immediately rushed to Lovato's defense -- some taking it too far by sending Griffin death threats.
"#KATHY I'm going to stick you in the oven and kill you probably on broil," wrote one fan. "#KATHY please, slit your f---ing throat," another fan remarked. "The 'please' is a nice touch," Griffin said in response. A user named @LovaticForLifeL tweeted, "#KATHY you motherf---er shut the f--- don't ever speak about Demi or we will kill you."
A distressed Lovato eventually addressed the backlash in an extended Twitter post Tuesday evening. "I love you guys so much but y'all gotta chill with sending hate towards other people," she said. "Regardless of what they say or do.. The cruel things some of you are saying can really, REALLY hurt people. It's called cyber-bullying and somethings should NEVER be wished upon EVER. No matter WHAT."
She added, "Be an example for other haters. I know my #Lovatics are better than that. I really appreciate you guys always having my back but this is going way too far."
