Who’s laughing now? Gwyneth Paltrow’s team over at Goop had a cheeky response for Stephen Colbert on Thursday, Sept. 24, following his spoof of celebrity lifestyle brands late last week — and the results are hilarious.
In an article titled “6 Fail-Proof Tips For Launching a Men’s Lifestyle Site,” the Goop team ceremoniously welcome Colbert and “Snoop Doggy Dog” to the lifestyle space, explaining that “it’s about time someone brought a sausage or two to this clam bake.”
Then, “in the spirit of sisterhood,” the team provides six tongue-in-cheek tips on how to best break into the elusive realm.
“It’s said that we here at Goop subsist solely on seaweed, air, and Tracy Anderson DVDs, but when all else fails, we have some tricks up our sleeves,” the post begins. “After all, hipsters — and the dad bods that dress like them — know there’s only one bug that belongs under your skinny suit.”
The post goes on to poke fun at itself in a way not too dissimilar from how the Late Show host did on his program last week, proving that Goop — and Paltrow — don’t take themselves too seriously, with advice ranging from the latest in men’s beauty treatments (bleaching bits below the belt) to how to get the most clicks online.
Under the third tip, “Get good at telling people what to do,” the team encourages Colbert and Snoop Dogg to capitalize on “evergreen beauty content” to get more traffic to the site.
“Take, for example, achieving the perfectly imperfect man bun — subject line: The Panty Dropper of Hairstyle,” the post reads. “Goop tip: We style ours with Psssssst Dry Shampoo and Abilene oil from sharks.”
Last week, Colbert took a jab at A-list celebrities like Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, and Blake Lively to make fun of the trend of celebrity lifestyle brands.
“I’m launching my own, personal, curate-able lifestyle brand tonight,” he said on Thursday, Sept. 17, introducing audiences to a fake brand called Covetton House.
“Stop by Covetton House today, and treat you to some me,” he says in a parody promo clip. “In fact, I envy you, because unlike you, I never had a me to tell me what I like.”
Your move, Colbert.
