
Stephen Colbert
Stephen Colbert is a comedian, writer and television host best known for leading The Colbert Report and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Colbert was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in South Carolina. He attended Northwestern University, where he studied theater and developed an interest in improvisational comedy through The Second City in Chicago.
He began his career as a writer and performer on The Dana Carvey Show and later joined Comedy Central’s Strangers with Candy. Colbert rose to fame as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where his satirical delivery became a breakout feature. In 2005, he launched The Colbert Report, a parody of conservative talk shows, which ran until 2014 and earned multiple Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Variety Series.
In 2015, Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on CBS, succeeding David Letterman. The show has received critical acclaim and strong ratings, particularly for its political commentary. Colbert has also voiced characters in Monsters vs. Aliens (2009) and Despicable Me 4 (2024) and co-authored the books I Am America (And So Can You!) (2007) and America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t (2012). In July 2025, Colbert announced The Late Show would come to an end in May 2026 after being cancelled by CBS.
Colbert married Evelyn “Evie” McGee in 1993. The couple met in Charleston, South Carolina, and share children: Madeleine (born in 1995), Peter (born in 1998) and John (born in 2002).
