How Heidi Klum and Seal Told Their Kids About Separation

It's one of the most painful conversations parents can have with their kids -- but Heidi Klum and Seal have broken the news of their separation to to their little ones.

In a pre-taped interview airing on Friday's Access Hollywood Live, Seal, 48, told Billy Bush that he and Klum, 38, have broached the sad subject with daughters Leni, 7, and Lou, 2, and sons Henry, 6 and Johan, 5.

"Just explaining to them that things will be different, you know, without going into too much detail," the "Kiss from a Rose" singer said. "But a lot of things won't change."

The singer and the supermodel/TV hostess shocked fans worldwide when they announced their separation Monday after seven years of marriage.

"The main thing," Seal continued, "is to make sure that they feel that they're loved, make sure that they understand that their parents love each other, make sure that they understand if there are any changes, it is absolutely nothing to do with them."

Indeed, a source tells the new Us Weekly that the superstar couple's adorable kids "are upset" by the news, but their welfare "will always come first" for both Seal and Klum. To that end, Seal will keep a home base in Los Angeles to minimize disruption when he isn't overseas.

For more on the shocking split -- career tensions, Seal's moodiness and the final, fraught family trip to Aspen -- pick up the new Us Weekly, on stands Friday.

My thinking is they should never had childern, a mixed marriage is not a good thing The good Lord didn't wish for mixed marriage. poor kids suffer.

Those poor kids! Which ever partner is making the money so what! Marriage is about sharing, caring and family. There is no shame in being the bread winner if its mom or dad. There is no shame in being mr. Mom or mrs. Mom raising children is an equally important job too. Celebrity marriages take a lot of work because somebody career is going to eclipse the others and if your too immature to deal with this reality don't get married.

all I have to say is in the stars circle mixed marriages are rarely forever,I said from the beginning this marriage was doomed and they proved me right. So sad for those poor children. The parents do need to grow up and review those marriage vows they retook every year, the grass isnt any greener on the other side of the fence, they will see....

Poor them! They have everything in the world and it's still not enough. If they cared about their kids more than their careers they should both take a year off and stay home with the kids and work out whatever trivia they have going on. A lot of people would love to have this opportunity and can't afford it. They just sound spoiled and selfish.

Did it go something like this? "kids, Daddy and Mommy really need to grow up and realize what marriage is all about."

Next thing we'll be hearing is what they ate for dinner. This is just getting downright silly at this point. One minute they whining about hoping for a reconciliation and they next they are talking about telling the children. WHY would you discuss this with the media BEFORE settling all this with your children first? This is why all this is becoming nothing but a HOT MESS of spin and lies yet again. Typical Hollywood circus show.

I adore both of them and hope they can work it out. What is angering me are speculations by the media that it is Seal's temper and other nasty things - it is none of their business and unless they KNOW it to be a fact when he is at home with Heidi and the kids then the media needs to back off. Why say nasty things that are terrible? He has lost his temper with the media for getting in their faces taking photos - but that is a lot different than with your wife and kids. The media makes most celebrities angry and I do not know that I could put up with them either.

    I love them.....get back together...life isn't perfect!!!!!!
