Update: PETA Slams Jessica Simpson’s Pet Pig Plans

Jessica Simpson may be ready to open her heart again ... to a piglet.
Five months after her 5-year-old maltipoo, Daisy, was snatched by a coyote, Simpson revealed on Monday that she's finally mulling a new animal companion.

"I'm thinking about getting a pet pig," Simpson, 28, Tweeted. "Does this mean I'll have to give up pork?"
Update: PETA wasn't amused by Simpson's Tweet. A rep for the animal-rights group tells UsMagazine.com exclusively: "Pigs, who are smarter than dogs and every bit as sensitive to pain and
stress, don't belong in Jessica's stomach or carted around as her latest accessory."

Should Simpson ignore PETA and go the pig route, she won't be the first in Hollywood: Paris Hilton adopted a miniature "teacup piglet" named Princess Pigelette last fall. The addition to Hilton's menagerie reportedly cost $4500.
Simpson has been without a pet since Daisy, a gift from her ex-husband Nick Lachey, was dragged away by a coyote from her L.A. backyard in September. Following a frantic week-long search, the pooch was never recovered.

"I haven't really thought about another dog yet, but maybe sometime," Simpson told UsMagazine.com in October. "[Daisy] would want that...Daisy meant the world to me."

People who have pets have a responsibility to care for them and to keep them safe. What happened to her dog says to me that she is not a responsible pet owner and therefore should not have any kind of pet at all. If she wanted a pig she could have tried to hang on to John Mayer.

dk - wake up. There is a lot more animal suffering in the the world than human suffering. Humans in the millions are not tortured, skinned (at times alive), boiled to death, beaten, caught in traps, force fed, have their throats slit to bleed them etc... It is nice that you are on the side of supporting human......my famil prefers to support both.
I really don't understand what PETA thinks we should do with pigs then? They don't want us to eat them... well then what are they for if not for pets? Apparently we should just let all the little piggies run rampant around the world to fend for themselve because THAT'S humane... seriously? Comments like these from PETA give me a bad image of them. I used to think of PETA as a great group against animal cruelty but now it seems like PETA is just another celebrity wannabe. Get your act together PETA and stop picking on celebs. There are other more serious animal cruelty problems than Jessica Simpson thinking about buying a pig.
