Sandra Bullock wasn’t the only A-Lister to give a touching graduation speech this spring. Comedian Jim Carrey took the podium at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa on Saturday, May 24 to deliver a message to the 2014 graduates.
“I want to thank the trustees, the administrators, the faculty of MUM for creating an institution worthy of Maharishi’s ideals of education, as well as enabling the students through transcendental education and vedic knowledge to slack off twice a day for an hour and a half,” Carrey joked.
Though his speech was peppered with humor and his signature voices, the Dumb and Dumber To star, 52, also kept his message heartfelt.
“The decisions we make in this moment are based in either love or fear,” he continued. “So many of us chose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect so we never ask the universe for it. I’m saying I’m the proof that you can ask the universe for it. And if it doesn’t happen for you right away, it’s only because the universe is so busy fulfilling my order.”
The audience laughed and cheered for Carrey as he spoke, and at the end of his speech, the high school dropout received an honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts Honoris Causa from the university.
