There’s nothing fishy about this! Emmy winner Jon Hamm has lined up his next job, and the role he’s playing bears a striking resemblance to his iconic Mad Men character, Don Draper.
Hamm will be guest-starring on Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants as, ahem, Don Grouper. The character is described as the charismatic executive of the Grouper, Goby & Koi ad agency, whose sharp mind and devastating charm make him irresistible.
In the episode, which is set to air next year, Mr. Krabs turns to Grouper for help as he tries to launch his line of frozen Krabby Patties. In a character sketch supplied by Nickelodeon, Don Grouper wears a slick suit and tie, not unlike Mad Men‘s ad man.
It’s not Hamm’s first animated role: he also lent his voice to Herb Overkill, the husband of Sandra Bullock‘s Scarlett Overkill, in the Minions movie that was released in July.
The actor, 44, said in an interview earlier this year that he enjoyed taking on the animated role in the hit Despicable Me spinoff.
“You have total freedom. You’re not constrained by what you look like or what your hair looks like that day, or what haircut you’re stuck with from whatever thing you just finished,” he told Collider. “I’d flash back to being a little kid and watching cartoons and thinking, ‘I wonder if I could do that,’ and talking to myself, you know, things I do normally in my day-to-day life. I talk to my dog. I talk to myself. I talk to myself on elevators and people are like, ‘Are you sure you’re going to be okay?’ It’s sort of a process. But no, it’s really fun and it’s completely creative.”
