Before filming for the seventh season of Mad Men gets underway, Jon Hamm will be undergoing surgery. A rep for the 42-year-old actor confirms to Us Weekly, "It's a routine outpatient procedure to remove a single polyp from his throat."
Hamm, who plays ad executive Don Draper on AMC's Mad Men, appeared to be in good spirits at the 2013 Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 22. The actor, sporting a new bushy beard, did sound a little raspy, however, while on stage presenting the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series to Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Hamm should have plenty of time to recover from the procedure. The seventh and final season of Mad Men — which will be split into two parts — isn't set to premiere until spring of 2014.
During an interview with E!'s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Emmys, Hamm's costar January Jones said she's not sad to say goodbye to Mad Men — at least not yet.
"We haven't even started shooting the last season, so it's not sad yet," she explained. "It will be the last 'first day' soon, so that will be sad."
"We always love events like this," she added about reuniting with her costars at the Emmys. "We know how to celebrate pretty well, even if we don't win." (Mad Men ending up losing every category it was nominated for.)
