Judith Light is one amazing TV mom. The Who's the Boss? actress praised her former costar Danny Pintauro for publicly revealing he's HIV positive during an appearance on HuffPost Live on Monday, Sept. 28.
"I was so happy for him. I'm so proud of him. What it took — the process for him to do this and be that brave and courageous is incredibly moving to me," Light, 66, said. "This is a young man who has been through a lot so I have great respect for him. I have great pride in knowing him."
Earlier this week, Pintauro, 39, admitted on Oprah Winfrey's Where Are They Now? that he was diagnosed with HIV 12 years ago. The former child star kept Light informed about his condition then, and also gave her the heads up that he would be sitting down with Winfrey to discuss the situation.
"He told me that he was going to be doing the Oprah show," she said Monday. "I just think it's remarkable."
She added: "Do you know how many people he's going to affect? How many lives he's going to save? Do you know what a difference this will make? The ripple effect of what he's doing?"
Light and Pintauro played mother-son duo Angela and Jonathan Bower on Who's the Boss? from 1984 to 1992. As previously reported, Pintauro's former costars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano have also been supportive. Milano, in particular, got choked up while discussing Pintauro on The View Tuesday.
"I hate that it took him so long to feel comfortable, but I’m so glad that he is able to express himself now, and I guarantee you he will change so many lives," the Mistresses actress, 42, said. "He is a beacon of light, and he will be. I’m proud."
