When the going gets rough, even A-listers like Katie Holmes appreciate a little comfort from mom.
Just one day after the Romantics actress settled her divorce from Tom Cruise, Holmes and six-year-old Suri hung out with Holmes’ mother, Kathy, at NYC’s Chelsea Piers on Tuesday afternoon.
Following her decision to leave the Rock of Ages star, a source told Us Weekly Holmes leaned on her Ohio-based parents, Martin and Kathy, for guidance along the way. Martin Holmes, an attorney, helped the actress draft a proposal “in which she remains the primary caregiver and Suri lives with her at her apartment in New York,” the insider shared.
Thanks in part to her parents’ support, Holmes shocked Cruise by filing divorce papers on June 28 after nearly six years of marriage. On Monday, the estranged pair reached an agreement in which Holmes was granted primary custody of the couple’s daughter.
A second insider tells Us the Kennedys star kept her intentions to break free from Cruise, 50, a secret by employing a disposable cell phone to stay in touch with friends, family, and her team of lawyers.
Reveals the insider, “She had a private phone the whole time to make her own private calls on.”
