Name: Laurie Cole
Occupation: SoulCycle master instructor; actress
California girl: The L.A. native describes her look as "edgy, flirty, fun, moody," but admits she didn't hit her fashion stride until moving to NYC five years ago. "When I lived in L.A. I wore flip flops year-round," says Cole, who counts Chelsea Clinton, Kelly Ripa, Alec Baldwin and Katie Holmes as attendees of her sold-out spinning classes. (See her schedule at soul-cycle.com.) "Now I always wear heels. I never knew how much fashion would play a role in my life until I moved to Manhattan. I'm able to express my style and be appreciative of other people's too."
Fashion homerun: "I wore the most amazing Catherine Malandrino dress to Chelsea's wedding. It was royal electric purple-blue and floor-length. My friend Jennifer Fisher is a jeweler and she loaned me 50 carats of black diamonds including thick-hooped earrings. The next day they went to Taylor Swift for her cover shoot of Glamour! That night I felt kind of like a princess."
Celeb style icon: "Tilda Swinton will show up in a tailored shirt and a $10,000 skirt with her hair really funky and own it. I love that she doesn't make any excuses for who she is."
QUOTE: "I spend the majority of my day in workout clothing so I have to find a way to feel sexy and flirty while I am doing that. But I try to leave that behind when I'm not teaching. Sometimes people see me on the streets and they go, 'Wow you look so different!' I am not so sure that's a compliment!"
