Just another day at the races . . . with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

Prince William and Princess Kate (their preferred monikers) made their first public appearance together in weeks at Saturday's Epsom Derby, part of "Derby Day" in Epsom, England.

PHOTOS: Look back on the biggest day of their lives so far

Kate, 29, was appropriately regal in a cream-colored jacket, short skirt, high-heeled shoes and a smart, brown hat. She joined her new hubby William, 28, and her brother-in-law Prince Harry -- both of them handsome and decked out in top hats and tails with bright waistcoats. See more photos of the couple at the Derby.

PHOTOS: Who's the hottest Brit?

The trio joined Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip plus Prince Andrew -- all to cheer on the Queen's horse, Carlton House, in the day's big race. Sadly, although the steed was a favorite to win, Carlton (a gift from Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai) placed third behind winner Pour Moi and runner-up Treasure Beach.

The royal newlyweds' last and only post-honeymoon appearance together was during last week's private Palace meeting with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Their first "official" appearance is slated for June 9, where they will be guests of honor for a charity event.

They'll touch down on North American soil in late June -- visiting Canada and finally California in their first overseas trip as the Duke and Duchess.

She is NOT "Princess Kate!" She would have to have been born a princess in her own right to use that title. She is correctly called "HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge." HRH Prince William made it clear at their engagement that she wants to be called Catherine from now on. Please honor that request. And Diana was NEVER properly called "Princess Diana," even though her father was an Earl. Her title was "Lady Diana" and when she married Charles she became "HRH Diana, Princess of Wales."

I love Kate, but does she really have to show us the ring all the time. Surely she walked like a normal person before the wedding. Since the marriage, all she does is carry a clutch purse and place her left hand over it...ENOUGH already!

Kylia Clark: Queen Elizabeth will be able to give Kate the title of "Princess", she just hasn't done that yet. She started by naming them the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Actually she is a Princess and would like to be called Princess, but since she is not of "royal" blue blood (i.e. a distant distant cousin), she has to go by the moniker of Dutchess. She is not born of nobility like Diana was. That's why she got to be called Princess Diana. Kate is what they call a "commoner". And nobility rule states a "commoner" cannot be named "Princess"

She looks more like Pippa in this photo.

Mary Smith: I realize that, I didn't mean it so literally. Sorry. It's more the fact he goes his entire life as Prince William and now has to go to another title just because he got married? It's just srange...tradition I get it, but I can see where he would still like to just be called "Prince William". Why would royalty be new for we Americans. Royalty has been around since the dawn of man, and most of us DO have a grasp on it. Not all of us Americans are stupid as Europeans think. I just made an over-generalized statement. A Duke is not as high a title as a Prince as far as my "studies" would indicate...and I know he didn't lose the "Prince" title. Good grief.

Becoming a Duke is not a deomotion for Prince William. It's just a title he still has the rank of Prince. Really, I know most of this royalty stuff is new for Americans but it's very easy to learn about title ranks, etc on some websites.

  • June 05, 2011 - 9:04am Mary Smith

FYI Shanin Dietz....Catherine takes her rank from her husband so she has the rank of princess but her only title is Duchess of Cambrige. If Prince William had not been created a Duke she woud just be Princess William. It's like when commoners marry and someone becomes Mrs. Smith. She's not Princess Catherine she's the Duchess of Cambridge. Not even Duchess Kate.

@Mary....FYI. When you marry a prince, you become a princess.

Oops, meant it's a demotion for Prince WILLIAM, not Charles. My bad.

  • June 04, 2011 - 3:50pm Annalee Jackson

Good! Duke and Duchess just sound stupid. It's like a demotion for Prince Charles anyway. It makes no sense. Prince William and Princess Cate are much better. By the way, how does one go from Catherine with a "C" to "Kate" anyway?? LOL. Just wondering.

  • June 04, 2011 - 2:38pm Mary Smith

"Prince William and Princess Kate" is not their perferred moniker since that is not the style Kate has been given. She is the Duchess of Cambridge not Princess.

  • June 04, 2011 - 2:34pm Mary Smith

"Prince William and Princess Kate" is not their perferred monkier since Kate is The Duchess of Cambridge not a princess.

  • June 04, 2011 - 2:12pm Shanin Dietz

I agree w/Isabel. I don't think Pippa is useless BUT she hasn't looked real good since the wedding. haha

  • June 04, 2011 - 1:38pm Delores Williams

I don't think the two sisters compete like that. I don't know, maybe their more mature that the idiots who compare them.

  • June 04, 2011 - 12:18pm Isabel Paxton

Pippa's got nothing on Kate Middleton. Kate is stunning and she's has so much more than just a decent booty call a.s.s. Plus, Kate's going to be the Queen of England someday. Pippa is the Paris Hilton of England. Just a useless celebrity known for doing nothing. Gorgeous couple!
