Nicole Richie Opens Up About Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan Friendships on Watch What Happens Live

BFFs forever! Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton have been besties since birth, and despite what seems like a long estrangement, Richie said the famed socialite still holds a very special place in her heart.

The fashion designer, 32, stopped by Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday, July 8, and chatted with Bravo’s Andy Cohen about her relationship with Hilton.

Asked when she last spoke to the aspiring DJ, 33, Richie responded, “Paris is somebody that’s been in my life since day one.”

“I haven’t spoken to her in a while technically, but, if you really want to get into it, my view of a friendship is someone that you don’t necessarily have to talk to you every day,” she continued. “It’s somebody that you can call when you need them, and they’re just going to be there. So, time as whether I’ve spoken to somebody is really… it doesn’t really matter in my opinion.”

“An idea of a true friend is somebody that’s going to be there with you through and through,” she continued about her longtime pal Paris. “The short answer to this is, I haven’t spoken to her in a while, but we are very good friends. I love her and I love her family. I have a lot of respect for her.”

Both stars have been individually successful in the years since they famously got to know the United States of America on the hit 2003 reality show The Simple Life—a gig Richie says she has zero regrets about. “The Simple Life was the most fun time of my life,” she told Cohen, 46. “I was twenty and I had a television network, which was Fox, come up to me and say, ‘Do you want to take a trip for 28 days and get paid for it?’ I was like, ‘Okay!’ It was great. It was like backpacking—it was with your best friend and you got paid for it and it was fun!”

After her “fun” in her twenties, Richie is returning to the small screen this month, when her webshow #CandidlyNicole makes its television debut on VH1.

While Richie has stayed on good terms with her Simple Life costar, one person from her past with whom she is not so close is Lindsay Lohan. The two celebs famously partied together in the 2000s, but their friendship has seemingly waned.

As to when she last saw or spoke to Lohan, Richie said simply, “Haven’t spoken to her in a while,” choosing not to elaborate. While Lohan, 28, has continued to make headlines for her scandalous personal life, Richie has become a strong career woman and the mother to two children with husband Joel Madden
