No drama here! After Nina Dobrev announced she was leaving The Vampire Diaries after six years, fans immediately speculated it had something to do with her ex-boyfriend and costar Ian Somerhalder — but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, Dobrev is thrilled for her ex, who married Nikki Reed in an intimate ceremony last month.
"I've said this before, that we didn't break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn't love or friendship," Dobrev told E! News' Maria Menounos during an interview on Tuesday, May 12. "I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now."
Dobrev is even happy for her ex when it comes to his marriage. "When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful,” the 26-year-old told Menounos. “They look happy and I am happy, and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that…Of course, we're on a teen drama show, everyone's going to look for drama…I just ignore it."
Us Weekly broke the news back in May 2013 that Dobrev and Somerhalder had called it quits after more than three years of dating. At the time of their split, a source told Us they “remain best friends.”
In January 2015, Somerhalder got engaged to Reed after only six months of dating. Last month the lovebirds tied the knot at the Tuscali Mountain Inn in Topanga, Calif.
