President Obama’s Photo With (Very!) Underdressed Utah Man Goes Viral

President Obama and Marvin "Lance" Futch
A photo of President Obama and a woefully underdressed Utah man went viral this week — get the funny details!

Always pack a tie and suit — always! Marvin "Lance" Futch wore his sharpest white polo top, pants, and shoes for a roundtable meeting at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah on Friday, April 3, but never in his wildest dreams did he think the powwow was with President Barack Obama. His less-than-formal attire quickly got the attention of Reddit users (yes, a photo was taken!) and has since gone viral.

Futch, who works for the National Guard, was there to discuss his company Vivint Solar and its involvement in the Department of Energy’s Solar Ready Vets program. He initially thought he would be meeting with a senior White House official. That is, until he saw a name plate on the table with Obama's name.

Dun. Dun. Duuuuun!

Futch didn't fit in with the group, but still rocked a grin for the photo-op. Other advisers were either dressed in nicely pressed suits, slacks, or blouses.

"We were informed by the White House that it was going to be kind of a more informal event and I was even asked to do business casual," Futch told Utah's KSL.com. "I felt a little underdressed at the moment. Graciously, President Obama never mentioned it. I hope I didn’t offend him in any way."

He added: "I assure you if I would have known it was the president, I would have either been in military blues, suit and tie, something else."

Futch's wardrobe choice was first put on blast when his pal shared the photo on Reddit on Wednesday, April 8. "My friend at work was accidentally sent to a special round table meeting with President Obama," the title read. "Guess which one he is." The posting has since garnered over 2,000 comments.

Futch isn't embarrassed about the photo now seen 'round the world. In fact, he's happy his outfit is getting so much attention. "In my opinion, anything that can get the message out there of what we’re doing here is definitely worth a couple minutes of laughing that I was wearing a white polo in front of the president," he said.
