Jennifer Grey, who co-starred with Patrick Swayze in 1987's Dirty Dancing, described the 57-year-old actor, who died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer, as "a real cowboy with a tender heart."

"Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace," she tells Usmagazine.com in a statement. "He was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified."

Though it's been nearly 22 years since they shot the hit film, Grey tells Us she still vividly remembers filming those classic dance scenes.

"When I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing,  practicing the lift  in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see," she says.

Look back at Patrick Swayze's life

The film went on to become an international phenomenon, spawning a hit song in "(I've Had) the Time of My Life," numerous stage productions and a 2004 sequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, in which Swayze made a cameo.

It also immortalized the line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

Swayze also performed and co-wrote a song on the soundtrack, "She's Like the Wind," which was inspired by his wife, Lisa Niemi.

Says costar Grey, "My heart goes out to his wife and  childhood sweetheart, Lisa Niemi, to his mom, Patsy, and to the rest of their family."

RIP Patrick, Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie and my favorite part was at the end when you lip sing to Baby and crunh up your nose as you sing. I remember rewinding that part over and over again and even though I am 29 now, I still do :)

It Does not matter if they liked each other or not, BUT yes when they first met when they were very YOUNG they did not like each other and were less than thrilled when they realized were going to work together in Dirty Dancing but during the filming they did become FRIENDS

Why does it matter if they did or did not like each other over 20 years ago or even now for that matter. She is paying her respects to him now and being a class act in doing so. Seriously people let it go...and let him RIP.

There's no IF about it, Patrick openly admitted to disliking her both as a person and an actress so I really think she should shut her mouth.

Squeaky please, Jennifer Grey is trying to get her hasbeen azz back in the news by misrepresenting her relationship (or lack thereof) with the recently departed. It's tasteless and I, for one, think someone SHOULD call her on her bs about it since her lies are taking attention away from where it should be, on his great talent. I guess you think it's ok to lie about someone as long as their dead. Now stfu!

I am heartbroken he has lost his battle. He was a true gentleman and one of the finest actors. To me, he was as wonderful as our old classics Clark Gable and Errol Flynn. My condolences to his loved ones.

So what IF they didn't like each other when they made the movie! She's being classy and respectful in stating what it was like - without going THERE, and that's ALL that matters NOW! Let the drama go people! Patrick will be forever dancing in the clouds . . . ((â?¥))
