This wasn't the first memorial for the Dirty Dancing star. The residents of Lake Lure, the North Carolina town in which the 1987 movie was filmed, held a free, public service on Sept. 19.

You and your wife were truly an inspiration. I'm sure that her heart will hurt for a long time but she is strong and will be fine. Many blessings and I hope that our Heavenly Father is there with you to help you mend. RIP

it is about time, he passed away 2 weeks ago. I attended the service at Lake Lure in NC, held 5 days after he passed away and it was a public service, not private. Seems like if they wanted to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Fund, they will make it public to get more people there to raise more money.

I loved this guy since the day I saw him on DIRTY DANCING. Everytime I watch it i get the goose bumps, so romantic, so free, so relaxing.......I´m very sad he´s gone, so sorry we lost a man so kind, gentle, chivalrous, sweet. Every man out there should look up to him I think because he really knew how to treat a woman......... hoping his family and friends can cope with his death. I know he´ll always be remembered, so sad he had to leave so soon

Gone so soon, and I hope they take in consideration a public service for those who seen his movies in the past.
