Just two old friends catching up over Twitter! President Barack Obama made headlines this week when he finally nabbed an official @POTUS handle for Twitter, and got quite the warm welcome from former President Bill Clinton.
The 42nd POTUS, 68, tweeted at his fellow Oval Office dweller on Monday, May 18, writing, "Welcome to @Twitter, @POTUS! One question: Does that username stay with the office? #askingforafriend."
Clinton, who may soon return to the White House as the first First Husband in history, received a quick and quippy answer from President Obama, 53. "Good question, @billclinton," he wrote. "The handle comes with the house. Know anyone interested in @FLOTUS?"
Hillary Clinton, who is famously making her second attempt at running for President in the upcoming 2016 election, chose not to add to the conversation, instead continuing to tweet about her campaign. The exchange did not go unnoticed by the 67-year-old former Secretary of State, however, as she quietly favorited her husband's message to the President.
The current user of the @FLOTUS handle, First Lady Michelle Obama, also stayed mum on the two political heavyweights conversation. She did go on to extend her own Twitter welcome to her husband, writing, "It's about time, @POTUS! –mo."
If Hillary is successful in her run and the former President becomes the inaugural First Husband, he will have to work to gain the accompanying @FHOTUS Twitter account. The handle is under use by a man named Filêmon Santos, who has written zero tweets and boasts six followers.
