Royal Mania! Prince William will be popping by 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue during his visit to America with wife Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton next week. The White House announced on Friday, Dec. 5, that the Duke will be meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. before his trip to the World Bank on Monday, Dec. 8.
"President Obama will host Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, for a meeting in the Oval Office on Monday, December 8," a statement from the press secretary read. "The Vice President and Dr. Biden will also host The Duke of Cambridge for a separate meeting in the White House."
Noting the Duke's planned speech about illegal wildlife trafficking, the statement continued: "The President welcomes the Prince’s work in this global fight against what is both a national security threat and a devastating environmental problem. In February, in support of the President's Executive Order and in parallel with efforts at the London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade, which the Duke of Cambridge attended, the administration announced its National Strategy for Combatting Wildlife Trafficking. That strategy mobilizes the entire U.S. government to combat this threat."
This isn't the first meeting between the two. The royals hosted President Obama and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, at Buckingham Palace in 2011. "The President looks forward to thanking the Duke of Cambridge for the hospitality shown to him by the Royal Family during the President’s recent visits to the United Kingdom," the White House statement added. "This visit underscores the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom."
Prince William's pregnant-again wife won’t be traveling to the nation’s capital with him; instead, she will be staying in New York City, where the couple will start their trip on Sunday, Dec. 7.
Prince George’s father will push his agenda to protect wildlife at the World Bank’s anti-corruption conference after meeting with President Obama. While William is away, Middleton will focus on her own causes in the Big Apple, visiting a local child development center and attending a lunch hosted by the British Consulate General.
Later that evening, William will return to NYC so the royal couple can sit courtside at a Brooklyn Nets basketball game at the Barclays Center.
