Rihanna Parties With Diddy in Paris During 777 Tour Stop
To fete the release of her seventh album, Unapologetic, Rihanna will be flying via Delta 777 jet to play seven concerts in seven cities in seven different countries in seven days -- and Us Weekly's invited! For the next week, Us Weekly's Senior Editor Ian Drew will be flying with the 24-year-old superstar -- plus nearly 250 members of her team, worldwide press and fans -- on her landmark 777 Tour.
For all of the inside details aboard the 777, read Ian's dispatch from days four and five, Sat. Nov. 17 and Sun. Nov. 18, where the "Diamonds" singer performed in Paris and Berlin. Check back daily for exclusive tidbits, photos and more!
Blame it on the alcohol . . . and Diddy.
After arriving in Paris, Rihanna checked into the Park Hyatt right next The Westin -- as it has one small door right on the side -- while her band and the rest of her team checked into The Westin. Rihanna got a massage and get her hair and makeup done.
After we landed, Rihanna told her team she was upset she didn't get to spend more time with us so she decided to throw a more sedate afterparty in Paris, just for the core group of press and fans on the trip. She was exhausted, but asked her team to hustle to find a spot for it from 11 to 2 a.m. so she could go after the show. (Keep in mind we were all exhausted from not sleeping the night before!)
That night at her show (around 9:30 p.m.), Rihanna emerged on stage in a silky oversized black graphic tee and thigh-high black suede boots. Her hair was in a retro style, like she wore during the Victoria's Secret fashion show.
"What's up, Paris?" she asked the crowd "I couldn't wait to get here. I love you guys. You guys have the best energy in the world."
The setlist was cut shorter this show to make sure she made [the venue, Le Trianon's, 11 p.m.] curfew. She skipped two sections of songs from the show -- the acoustic set of three ballads and the section of her three big hip-hop cameos -- but kept in the new song "Stay" from the night before.
After the show, we went to VIP Room, the club her team hastily secured for the afterparty for us. She got DJ Reflex to DJ and half of the second floor balcony was sectioned off for it. Since everyone was absolutely exhausted from the night before, not many people showed up for the party.
Around 1, her manager Jay Brown showed up saying Rihanna was five minutes away and she was just "resting her vocal chords" from the show. He went around passing out tequila shots and cups of vodka.
At 2:50 am, Rihanna showed up, wearing her outfit from the show with the Adam Kimmel for Carheart denim jacket from Stockholm. She didn't really seem in the mood to mingle. Still, when she walked in, she winked at me. She then told Janell Snowden from VH-1, "I like your outfit. Sexy!"
Diddy and his girlfriend Cassie arrived -- and the rapper's bodyguards gave us the boot. (Pharrell, Akon and Omarion came to hang out too!) Rihanna immediately started making drinks for her famous friends. She started drinking the cocktails she mixed up (looked like vodka and orange juice) and soon switched to white wine. She was dancing to her own song "Diamonds" spun by Reflex -- Diddy and Akon threw confetti out onto the dancefloor during "Where Have You Been?" (I asked Jay Brown at this point how she handles all this partying and he says, "She's 24. She can handle it.")
Today (Nov. 18), Rihanna finally arrived at the airport at 2:50 PM -- after the flight had already been moved later for her.
When she did arrive, a police force escorted her through so she got on the plane within two minutes. She was wearing a black stocking cap, big black puffer jacket and black sunglasses. Once onboard, she spoke with her manager and Melissa -- while drinking water -- about how tired she was, as she had been partying into wee hours of the morning with Diddy. She then immediately passed out and fell asleep in her seat and we took off.
At 4:40 p.m., we landed in Berlin and she was immediately escorted off the plane to her car. She went right to a small hotel room next to the venue, E-Werk, to shower and start the glam process for the show in a few hours.
After the show, we fly right to London where we will sleep until the show tomorrow. At 5 p.m. tomorrow, she also has an appearance to light the London Christmas tree before her concert there.
