Though Robin Thicke and Paula Patton released a joint statement announcing their split on Feb. 24, a source close to the "Blurred Lines" singer tells Us Weekly he fought to save their marriage "until the last moment."

Through Thicke and thin? Robin Thicke and wife Paula Patton announced their separation in a joint statement on Monday, Feb. 24, but a source close to the "Blurred Lines" singer tells Us Weekly that the split may not have been as mutual as it seems.

"Robin wanted to save their marriage, but it was Paula's choice and she ended it," the insider tells Us. "Robin does not want this divorce."

That being said, Thicke, 36, wasn't surprised by Monday's announcement of their separation after eight years of marriage. The joint statement issued to Us read: "We will always love each other and be best friends. However, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."

"Robin was not blindsided — he knew this was coming out," a second source tells Us. "But he was committed to saving their marriage. He didn't want this."

Thicke and actress Patton, 38, were high school sweethearts who wed in June 2005. They are parents to son Julian, 3.

"She is done with the marriage, but he was definitely fighting to stay together until the last moment," another insider told Us. "It is still cordial between them, but they are now figuring things out."

The "Give It 2 U" singer recently canceled three of his tour shows. In a statement to USA Today on Thursday, Feb. 20, he explained: "I never want to let down my fans but I have unfortunately lost my voice and cannot perform tomorrow night."

After pulling out of a performance again in Cherokee, N.C. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, Thicke wrote on his website: "I want to thank everyone for the well wishes these last few days. My fans mean everything to me. I'm looking forward to getting back on out on the road and performing in Washington, D.C. this Thursday, and the rest of the tour. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!"
