Salman Khan's troubles have finally caught up to him — 13 years later. The Bollywood superstar has been sentenced to five years in jail for a 2002 hit-and-run driving incident in Mumbai.
Khan, now 49, said in Mumbai court on Wednesday, May 6, that his driver was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Judge DW Deshpande dismissed Khan's comment and said the actor was the one driving.
According to CNN, Khan lost control of his car after leaving a bar at the time. He was also under the influence of alcohol.
The actor killed a homeless man and injured four others at the scene of the crime, which took place outside a bakery. He was charged with culpable homicide for his actions, as well as negligent driving and causing grievous harm to the victims — equaling a sentence of five years for the offenses.
Khan is currently in the middle of filming projects Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. His film credits, which spans two decades, also include Kick, Lai Bhaari, Son of Sardaar, and the Dabangg franchise.
Story is still developing.
