Scarlett Johansson revealed that she grew up on assisted lunch programs

Scarlett Johansson is using her star power to raise awareness about child hunger — an issue that's very close to her heart. While promoting the Feeding America organization, the Captain America: Civil War actress revealed that she grew up on assisted lunch programs.

"My family grew up relying on public assistance to help provide meals for our family. Child hunger in America is a real and often overlooked problem, but one that together, we can fix," Johansson, 30, said. "It is my hope that by joining with Feeding America, our awareness of this issue will lead to a solution."

Indeed, and in doing so, Johansson and her Avengers: Age of Ultron costar Jeremy Renner filmed two PSAs each for the campaign.

"There are 16 million children struggling with hunger in America," Johansson says in one video. "This is a serious problem, but one we can solve."

In a second, Renner, 44, adds: "As a parent, I find it tragic that 1 in 5 children struggle with hunger right here in America."
