Cowabunga! Many people love to catch the perfect wave, but none have ever done it as expertly as this seal.
On the coast just off of Eden, Australia, photographer Robyn Malcolm was snapping away, getting photos of nearby whales in Twofold Bay. Later, while editing the images she realized that she had captured a picture of a seal riding on a whale’s back in the water.
“We'd seen some amazing whales coming out of the water, everything was happening so quickly,” Malcolm told The Sydney Morning Herald. “And it was when I went back through the photos that I realized I had actually captured the seal on top of the whale."
Though many could speculate that the image has been doctored to look that way, Malcolm insists the viral photo is the original.
“I don’t know how to use Photoshop and I do still have it on the camera so I can prove it,” she said. “But it was pretty amazing.”
The photo comes just months after a viral photo of a weasel riding a woodpecker began circulating on the Internet as the “weaselpecker.” Which begs the question: What animal will use another animal for transportation next?
