Taylor Swift Tops Kim Kardashian and Beyonce With 50 Million Instagram Followers

Taylor Swift tops the list of most popular Instagram accounts with 50 million followers, according to Reuters.

I’mma let you finish, but… Taylor Swift has the most Instagram followers in the world. The “Blank Space” songstress officially hit the 50 million followers mark on Thursday, Oct. 8, making her account the most popular account worldwide.

“50 million followers!!” she captioned a screen shot of the moment. “Thanks so much guys. I’m pretty sure this is just because I have cute cats though.”

Swift, 25, beat out other social media heavyweights including Kim Kardashian and Beyonce to get the top honors, as reported by Reuters. Kardashian, 34, currently has 48.4 million followers, and the Queen Bey herself, also 34, has 47.5 million followers.

The next most followed accounts include Selena Gomez at 46.2 million and Ariana Grande, at 44.9 million.

Swift also has more Twitter followers than the aforementioned media stars, with a whopping 64.5 million followers.

According to Charles Porch, the head of global creative programs at Instagram, the appeal of these celebrities’ accounts on the photo-based social media platform lie in being “authentic and oftentimes really fun.”

“What Instagram is doing is giving all these ladies a direct line to their fans and, by having a direct line, they’re controlling their message,” Porch told Reuters.

By contrast, the most popular male celebrity on Instagram is Justin Bieber, with 40 million followers, followed (not so closely behind) by President Barack Obama, with 4.7 million.
