Inking a deal with Nintendo, the pup (who appeared in the 2011 silent film as the constant companion of Jean Dujardin's character George Valentin), will appear in ads for the video game retailer's 3DS handheld system.

"Uggie didn't have to sit up and beg for his role as Nintendo's spokesdog," Scott Moffitt, the brand's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, told Us Weekly in a statement. "It's truly our pleasure to work with a star of Uggie's magnitude."

The 10-year-old terrier's campaign appearances will come on the heels of his owner's decision to retire him from filmmaking as he battles a mysterious neurological disorder.

"It comes and goes," trainer Omar Von Muller told the U.K. Daily Mail of his furry companion's health issue. "It is a shame this has happened when he is getting the biggest success of his career, but we feel the best thing to do is to retire him after the Oscars."
