He’s just doing him. Tyga opened up about his on-again, off-again relationship with Kylie Jenner in a new interview with BigBoy TV on Friday, June 17, revealing that he felt like their love life “overshadowed” his career.
“When you’re in a very public relationship like that, it’s hard for other people to see you differently than that,” he said. “Being in that, it took a lot, careerwise, everything. It overshadowed a lot of my talents and a lot of things that I worked hard for.”
The 26-year-old rapper and the 18-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star split mid-May, and both have since moved on. The “Rack City” rapper emphasized that there was no bad blood in their split, despite rumors of infidelity.
“It got to the point where it was like, ‘I respect you, you respect me,’” he said of why the pair decided to call it quits on their relationship. (They previously broke up briefly in November, right around Tyga’s 26th birthday.) “When something is so damaged or something is just not right, you can’t fix it in a moment. The only thing is time.”
Jenner has since been linked to rapper PartyNextDoor, and Tyga raised eyebrows when he stepped out with model Demi Rose at the Cannes Film Festival.
Despite reports, however, Tyga insisted that he’s single. “I’m enjoying life,” he said.
But just because they’re broken up now doesn’t mean that the pair won’t reconcile in the future, Tyga added.
“Maybe later on in life, maybe we might come back,” the “Stimulated” rapper said. “She’s young. When you’re young, you’re going to make mistakes. All of those mistakes are going to be in the public eye, so that puts a lot of strain on the relationship. Right now, I want to focus on what I need to do. I just wanted to get back to just me. I think for her, as well.”
