Victoria Beckham used to decide between the little Gucci dress and the little Gucci dress, but on Thursday, Sept. 25, she didn’t choose fashion. As her London boutique had its opening day, the fashion designer leant her voice to a worthy cause, appearing at the United Nations in New York City to address the General Assembly.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with you and your team at the U.N.,” Beckham, 40, said to the Executive Director of UNAIDS, Michel Sidibe. “I work closely with the Elton John AIDS Foundation as well as mothers2mothers. I’m a mother, I’m a woman and I want to reach out and help as many women and mothers as I can. Babies should not be born with HIV.”
This isn’t the former Spice Girl’s first charitable act, of course. The mother of four sold 600 pieces from her clothing and accessories wardrobe to raise funds for mothers2mothers in August, a charity that strives to eliminate the transmission of HIV and AIDS between mothers and their unborn children.
The wife of soccer legend David Beckham was honored as an UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador at the U.N. and posted pictures of her visit on Twitter.
“Proudly accepting the role of @UNAIDS goodwill ambassador #UNGA x vb,” she tweeted along with a photo of herself in a navy blazer with black lapels and matching navy pants.
