Yolanda Foster Undergoes Surgery for Lyme Disease Symptoms: ‘Searching for a Cure’

Not giving up. Yolanda Foster underwent transvascular autonomic modulation surgery in an attempt to ease some of the symptoms of Lyme disease. The procedure involves stimulating nerve fibers to help with brain fog and fatigue, which are symptoms associated with Lyme. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alumna, 52, took to Instagram Tuesday, August 23, to give fans a health update.

“I am seeking, I am striving and I am in it to win it with all of my heart…………” Foster captioned a photo of herself playing cards with friends in her hospital room. #LymeDiseaseAwareness #TvamSurgery #LastChapter #SearchingForACure #RemissionInSight.” In the snapshot, the mom of models Gigi, 21, Bella, 19, and Anwar Hadid, 17, sports a huge smile as she clocks in quality time with her pals.

This isn’t the first time the TV personality has opened up about her battle with the autoimmune disorder, which she was diagnosed with in 2012. Back in January, she wrote a BravoTV.com blog post detailing how Lyme disease has taken a toll on her physical well-being.

“Most of you know I have been battling Lyme disease for the past three years,” she wrote at the time. “I wasted the first year trying to get diagnosed and spent the next two trying to find a cure. I have gone from the conventional long-term antibiotics to about every holistic protocol there is to offer. Unfortunately, I was only able to get to about 60 percent recovery until I relapsed in early December and have not been able to find my way back.”

As previously reported, Foster — who recently split from husband David Foster after nearly five years of marriage — is releasing a book in February 2017 about her debilitating condition. It will be titled Believe Me: My Battle With the Invisible Disability of Lyme Disease.

St. Martin’s Press released a statement in June, revealing what the tome would be about: “While doctors continued to dismiss her pain and friends debated about her health diagnosis, Yolanda realized her mission and higher purpose of her journey is to use her newfound platform to educate, and bring awareness to the stigma surrounding chronic Lyme in order to bring hope to other sufferers who have been misdiagnosed and battling the invisible disability of chronic disease in general.”

On June 15, Foster (who shares her three children with ex-husband Mohamed Hadid) announced that she would be exiting RHOBH after four seasons to focus on her health. Yolanda’s Lyme disease, of course, was a huge story line on the hit Bravo show last season. She often went head-to-head with costar Lisa Rinna, who relentlessly questioned the authenticity of her ailment.

“I would have loved a more graceful exit than ‘Season 6’ but sometimes we don’t get to control the ending of the chapters in our life,” she wrote to her nearly 2 million followers. “I am leaving what’s over without denying its past importance in my life. I believe that every exit is a new entry and with that in mind I say goodbye to my @Bravotv Family as I continue to focus on my recovery, my children and bring back the privacy within our Home.”
