With a superstar musician as a father and a supermodel legend as a mother, Alexa Ray Joel seems to have inherited both parents’ extraordinary genes. The 27-year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley appears in Gap’s #BacktoBlue campaign, and in a 32-second clip from the ad, released on YouTube last week, she manages to demonstrate both her natural beauty and impressive vocal chops.
In the short but sweet video, a solo Alexa, sitting on a stool, pays homage to her famous dad by singing his classic love song, “Just the Way You Are,” while playing on a synthesizer. Her long brown locks are worn down in loose waves, and she’s wearing a denim shirt and skinny jeans by the brand.
While she may have inherited her love of music from her father, her interest in fashion comes from her mom. “Even before I go into the recording studio or to the piano to write a song, I put on an outfit that reflects my mood and what I want to express creatively. My mother is a huge influence on my fashion sensibility, ” she told Us recently. “And most of my favorite pieces come from her closet — like beautiful vintage Missoni and Dolce & Gabbana, and some incredible jewelry.”
The talented celebrity offspring, along with her still-gorgeous model mom, was honored at Us Weekly‘s Most Stylish New Yorkers party on Sept. 10. Her date? Her boyfriend, restaurateur Ryan Gleason. “He’s very supportive. It meant a lot that he came to support me as my date tonight,” told Us.
