Reactions to the crimson and black Proenza Schouler gown Kristen Stewart wore to this year's Met Gala in NYC ranged from "amazing" to "awful." Her intense black eyeliner on the other hand, received a more overwhelmingly positive response. (An informal Us Weekly office poll revealed nothing but love for K-Stew's moody eye makeup.)
"As much as Kristen isn't a makeup everyday kind of girl, she does love the end result of the getting ready process. Smoky eyes make her feel ready and confident to take on the red carpet," Beau Nelson tells Us Weekly of the look he created for the star.
Instead of a traditional smoky look, Nelson lined Stewart's entire eye with CoverGirl Liquiline Blast in Black Fire, then smudged it just a bit. Next, she layered on CoverGirl Line Exact liquid liner in Black for added drama. To set the liner, she applied a black shadow, plus more liquid liner in the inner rims. Her lashes got two coats of mascara on the top and one on the bottom.
"Kristen loves to always try something different and we’ve never done a smoky eye that stayed so close to the lashes, it was almost a little punk," says Nelson.
