Holy smokes!

Olivia Wilde may have opted for a simple ponytail at the Cowboys & Aliens premiere in San Diego on Saturday, but her makeup was anything but casual.

The 27-year-old rocked a set of sexy smoky eyes that made her baby blues pop -- but what we love most is the heavy use of liner as opposed to layers of shadow, which makes her sultry makeup gorgeous without looking overdone. Want to copy Wilde's look? Here's how:

Chanel celebrity makeup artist Melanie Ingelssis started by using a black kohl eye pencil to create the shape of the smoky eye, then rimmed the star’s eyes with thick lines, including the inner lids.

To ensure that the makeup wouldn't smudge on the red carpet, Ingelssis used one of Chanel's new long-wear cream shadows, Illusion D'Ombre Eyeshadow in Mirifique, all over Wilde's lids and into the crease to create a black base. Then she blended it with kohl pencil so there were no harsh lines.

She touched up the outer and inner areas of the eyes with a black shadow, creating a sexy and smudgy look.

Next, Ingelssis took a clean blending brush and blended the colors together. She finished off the look with two coats of volumizing and defining mascara.
