There’s something about that cape! Or is it a jacket? A poncho? Regardless how the latest outerwear must-have piece is identified, celebs like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Olivia Palermo, just can’t seem to keep themselves from wearing it — especially when it comes to the Burberry version.
Crafted in Scotland, the Burberry color block blanket poncho is made of lambs wool and cashmere in the brand’s signature print. Adding to the luxe fabric, the drapey $1,395 piece also comes monogrammed with the wearer’s initials.
“I think it’s best worn open, so it has the shawl look rather than it looking like you grabbed your throw blanket off your couch before you left the house,” she tells Us.
Sure, Victoria's Secret model Huntington-Whiteley has no problem pulling off the trend being 5’9" and all, but what about for more petite women like Sarah Jessica Parker?
“Since the blanket poncho is so bulky, it’s best to wear it with skinny jeans, shorts or sexy thing thigh-high or knee boots,” she said, noting that these tips give the allusion of more height. “Anything to show off the shape of your legs, so you don’t look too boxy.”
Since it’s fall, Saidi recommends styling pieces that are idyllic of the season and cool weather.
“I love the fall vibe this monogram blanket poncho gives off. It would be perfect with a fierce boho fedora type hat or a great pair of sunnies,” she said. “You could also wear a long-sleeve shirt or long-sleeve dress under it, so it gives off that cozy layered look.”
Missed out on the now sold-out Burberry monogrammed blanket? You can still get your hands on the look via a few trusty fall-ready items.
“There are great cashmere ponchos and capes out there now that are not as thick or bulky,” she said.
Saidi even recommends going the traditional route with a coat.
“I’m obsessed with all these oversized lighter weight knee-length coats. They are perfect to throw over any outfit to instantly turn chic.”
