Better than the boys!
When Italian Vogue men’s magazine, L’Uomo Vogue, sought out a cover star for the October 2014 issue, the publication looked no further than Nicki Minaj.
The hot “Anaconda” rapper, 31, brought forth a spirit of power and androgyny, while maintaining her sex appeal in an assemblage of menswear-inspired outfits. The vivacious performer also debuted an asymmetrical bob hairstyle for the black and white spread.
In the interview, Minaj opened up about her colorful former persona, which consisted of bright wigs and weird stage getups, used mainly to grab attention. “At first no one took me seriously,” Minaj shared with the magazine.
These days, Minaj cares less about wearing looks for shock value and has since developed a keen appreciation for high fashion, as seen in the spread.
The tailored looks run the gamut from a loose-fitting Prada suit with dark piping, to a sexy Dsquared2 white shirt and pants outfit, the top slightly unbuttoned to reveal a little cleavage.
Minaj explained how important it is for her to make an impact in the male-dominated industry. “I want to build my empire,” she said. “In my field, I have always seen men do it, from Diddy to Dr. Dre to Jay Z. Now it’s a woman’s turn.”
