When a Hollywood starlet gets invited to an A-list fashion event, her motto should be "Go big, or go home." But that doesn't have to mean a dress that's super-short, sequined, or see-through. Or even a dress at all.
Case in point: Olivia Wilde, who showed off her sartorial sensibility in a killer color-blocked silk Gucci jumpsuit at a dinner for the label in Paris on Tuesday night.
"A jumpsuit is a great alternative to an evening gown or LBD," says Us Weekly fashion director Sasha Charnin Morrison. "The jewel tones combined with the black make Olivia's Gucci version look especially fresh."
Tres chic indeed, but can a non-celeb (read: someone who weighs more than 100 pounds) pull off a onesie without looking like a sack of Ore-Idas? Yes, as long as you take your body shape into account says Morrison, who offers up the following advice:
Pear-shaped: Pick a jumpsuit that has detail at the top, like a ruffled bodice.
Broad shoulders: Go for a halter version, and add a belt to draw more attention to your lower body.
Hourglass: Enhance your shape with a big belt and avoid a tight, ankle-length style.
You should also follow Wilde's lead and dress up your jumpsuit with accessories. "Treat it like a black cocktail dress and add a statement necklace, sky-high stilettos and a bright clutch," says Morrison.
