Who wants to take Reese Witherspoon shopping for a new purse?

At the insistence of PETA, the 35-year-old Oscar winner has hung up her Chloe purse for good. The python handbag, called the Paraty, retails for $3,820 on Net-a-Porter.

After Witherspoon was seen toting the bag around L.A., PETA sent her a video (ironically narrated by her Walk the Line costar Joaquin Phoenix) that highlighted the cruel methods used in the exotic-skins industry.

"We've long known Reese to be a kind person, so we're pleased -- and not surprised -- that she is hanging up her python bag for good," PETA told Gossip Cop in a statement. "We hope Reese's honest mistake will serve as a reminder for all of us to be extra-certain that what we’re buying is mock croc or fake snake."

PETA later sent Witherspoon flowers after she vowed never to carry the purse again.

Where and how the Water for Elephants star got the Chloe bag remains a mystery: California banned the sale of snakeskin in 1970.

Think Twice Reese - Forget python cruelty, you are a friend to ecology! Maybe it's time to spur demand for python skin purses and to lift the ban so we can decimate a very disruptive invasive species, the Burmese Python, etc. in the Florida Everglades.

why would she even own that kind of bag in first place?? If this was any other celeb, I'm sure there'd be a mob of haters threatening to hurt her.

Thank you Reese for stopping using the bag, what about Chloe? Maybe people need to look harder at those they buy from? Whether PETA or the ASPCA, it is important that someone brought it to her attention. No matter what animals, we humans need to remind ourselves of the words of Chief Seattle when he said that as we allow the animals to be treated, one day the humans will be treated the same, and you know, with snuff films, and even black market kids, and kidnapping for money, it seems he was very right.

I agree with you Erica, PETA is much more interested in money than animals. They have killed many perfectly healthy animals (not many ppl know that). They're money goes to ads and paying celebs but not much to animals. I don't like PETA, but I love the ASPCA. They actually care about animals, AND help them.

So PETA, who kills 97% of any companion animals they take in, has a VP that is insulin dependent (tested on animals), and has a Prez that broke her wrist prior to the launch of her book "Let's Have a Dog Party!" - had no problems with using an IV drip that was tested on animals prior to being used on humans (as were the pain killers that she quite probably took)...feels that they are in a position to say something about a handbag that someone is using? It's ok as long as it helps them, but it's not ok for anyone else....... I have MAJOR issues with the source of the complaint. PETA doesn't have a leg to stand on. They promote the return of products that include anything animal - yet they live in houses that contain materials that were made from animals...AND use medical treatments that are based on studies done on animals. People in glass houses and all that.... Don't get me wrong - I don't wear fur, leather, or even snakeskin

The difference is that leather is a by-product of the food industry. Look at it like how native americans would use all of the bison. We are already eating meat, so using the skin is not wasteful. The masses aren't eating python, or for other examples, in the fur industry, fox, mink, chinchilla, etc aren't being raised for food and fur, only fur. We don't need fur to live, and these are wild animals that have a horrible life just waiting around to be killed for their pelts. For a python bag, a wild python was killed and possibly skinned alive for a purse (not necessary).

I agree Emily, while I dont condone harming an animal to make clothing, ect, you do bring up a valid point.
