Move over, radiant orchid, a new color trend is taking over red carpets!
Cobalt blue has been spotted on Hollywood’s finest this past week in various, delightful statement styles.
Sandra Bullock looked stunning in a Vionnet dress in the electric shade at the AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Jane Fonda on June 5. The cutout gown featured a draped back and contrasting lime lining.
Earlier in the week, January Jones wore a white peplum sweater with cobalt polka dots paired with matching pants at the Mad Men panel discussion in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 1.
In a different take on the color trend, Lupita Nyong’o wore cobalt eyeshadow to the CFDA Awards on June 2. Her go-to makeup artist, Nick Barose, applied the blue shade from the Lancome Color Design Palette in Azur Chic just above the Oscar winner’s creases for a bold look. To achieve the ’60s-inspired eye, he damped a brush and then painted it slightly above the crease so the color showed.
If you’re feeling inspired, here’s how to wear cobalt like a celeb.
For a Lupita-inspired look, build up layers of mark Neon Gaze Eye Shadow in Neon Gaze ($10,Meetmark.com) above the creases. For a more subtle take, swipe the sheer color on lids and add liner and black mascara.
For a January-inspired dose, wear a neutral outfit (think whites, creams, and black) and add the Chinese Laundry London kitten heel ($39.99, Chineselaundry.com) to really stand out.
For a Sandra-inspired all-over style, slip on the Mare Gown in Chez ($275, Revolveclothing.com), which features a wrap-front bodice and side slit.
