‘Say Yes to the Dress’ Bride Loses Lawsuit to Delay Episode, Calls Show a ‘Nightmare’

Raining on her parade! Say Yes to the Dress bride-to-be Alexandra Godino was excited to be asked to be a part of the hit TLC series — until she found out that her episode, which would feature her reportedly five-figure wedding dress, would air before her Palm Springs nuptials.

Godino, 26, who's engaged to hockey player Jeff May, discovered mid-February that the series was planning to air her episode in March, two months before her May wedding date (and thus spoiling the surprise of her dress for any guests who watched). According to TMZ, she begged the producers to move the air date back, but they declined.

So she responded by suing the series, riding on the claim that she and the show's producers had a verbal agreement that her episode would not air until after her wedding. But that was not enough for Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Nancy Bannon.

According to the New York Daily News, Bannon said in court on Thursday, March 24, "I appreciate that [airing the show Friday] could take away from the pageantry of the wedding." Nevertheless, she also pointed out that Godino had signed a contract that gave the producers control over her image, which is why she ruled in the show's favor.

"For almost ten years, Say Yes to the Dress has been showcasing brides-to-be as they find their perfect dress," TLC tells Us Weekly in a statement. "Many of them have had their episodes air before their wedding, and an air date is not promised or solidified at filming. Given the court ruling, we will be moving forward with the originally slated airing of our episode. We wish Alexandra all the best with her wedding and this exciting new chapter of her life."

But the well wishes aren't enough for Godino. "It really has kind of whirlwinded into this nightmare," she told Good Morning America. "I'm pretty sure every woman who's ever been married or dreamt about getting married can understand."
