UPDATE: Cher backtracked on her earlier remarks on Miley Cyrus' MTV VMAs performance in a long Twitter rant on Wednesday, Sept. 18. "Re: Miley S . . . I Think What I Think, but Having Said That . . . I'm a little ashamed (which is Total bullshit, how can u B a LITTLE ASHAMED) that I didn't keep my big Opinionated mouth Shut," she wrote. "WTF is MY PROBLEM! I'm 2 Old to fall prey 2 'Tell us, Oh wise 1, What did YOU think of M.S ?'"
"What I should have said, 'I didn't like it that much, but she's Pushing The Envelope, being an ARTIST! She's Talented & DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY," Cher explained. "But somehow my ego had 2 get ITS 2 CENTS IN! MY BIG ASS 'BAD', I DIDNT SUPPORT A FELLOW ARTIST. TRUTHFULLY SHE WAS Fkng BRILLIANT . . . CAUSE . . . WE'RE STILL TALKING ABOUT IT.
She added, "Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought, its a Reminder, that if I don't practice my principles, I loose Them."
One day earlier, the 67-year-old pop legend more or less called Cyrus' VMAs stint an epic fail. Promoting her new album Closer to the Truth, the singer and actress tells USA Today that the 20-year-old's twerk-a-thon with Robin Thicke was "so bad."
"I'm not old fashioned," the Oscar winner points out. Her problems with the newly-single starlet's performance, she says, simply has to do with quality.
"She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl,'" she opines of Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines" medley. "It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out."
One more complaint? "And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated. If you're going to go that far, then think about it before you do it."
At least one elder pop star is on Miley's side, and it's another former Disney star: Britney Spears. "I think any time you do a performance that is memorable, you're going to have criticism. I think she's doing her thing, being herself," the "Work, Bitch" singer, 31, said of Cyrus, with whom she duets on Cyrus' upcoming Bangerz album.
