"Disco Inferno" Singer Jimmy Ellis Dies at 74

Disco has lost one of its greats.
On Thursday, Jimmy Ellis passed away at the age of 74 in South Carolina.

Ellis was one of the original longstanding members of The Trammps, one of the first disco groups that rose to fame in the 1970s.

The Philadelphia-based group's most memorable single is "Disco Inferno," which features Ellis as the lead vocals. In addition to reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978, it was also slotted on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack the year prior.

CNN reports that a memorial service for the singer will be held on March 16 in North Carolina. No word if it is open to the public.
