Congratulations are in order! The 2014 Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced on Thursday, Dec. 12. Zoe Saldana, Aziz Ansari and Olivia Wilde gathered very early in the morning at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills to read off the list of nominees.
Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club: "I'm excited and honored that the HFPA has recognized my performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Ron Woodruff was an incredible revolutionary, for HIV and the human spirit, and I was honored to tell his story. Looking forward to spending the evening with the HFPA on January 12th."
Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle: "Thank you to the HFPA. This is so exciting. I'm thrilled that the film received so many nominations and that I get to share this with the rest of the cast."
Sandra Bullock, Gravity: "The reason I am lucky enough to receive this wonderful nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is because Alfonso Cuaron awarded me the most extraordinary experience, which was to work with him!"
Kerry Washington, Scandal: "I'm enormously grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this honor. It's humbling to be nominated alongside such talented and hard-working women whose work inspires me."
Judi Dench, Philomena: "What great news! I'm delighted, and hugely honored to be in such magnificent company. And without the inspiration of Philomena herself I wouldn't of course be receiving this recognition."
Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club: "This is absolutely incredible. I want to thank the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for shining a light on DALLAS BUYERS CLUB and for celebrating independent cinema. I'm blown away by this Golden Globe Award nomination and so thankful to the incredible filmmakers for inviting me to help bring a fascinating story to the screen. This has been an unforgettable experience and I'm so very grateful to you all."
Kate Winslet, Labor Day: "I'm extremely surprised and absolutely thrilled to be included this year!! Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association."
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family: "My Golden Globes are still going strong! That's why I don't sag. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this nomination and for nominating the cast of Modern Family. It is truly an honor."
Emma Thompson, Saving Mr. Banks: "Making this film was the most satisfying and thrilling job I've had in years. It was a privilege to work with a team of people who couldn't have been bettered. I'm really honored to have been nominated."
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Enough Said and Veep: "I'm thrilled and so grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press. One question: does this mean I need two dresses?"
Michael Fassbender, 12 Years a Slave: "I'm humbled and honored to receive this nomination from the HFPA and thrilled for my friends Steve, Chiwetel and Lupita. I feel this is such an important film so thank you to the HFPA for all their support championing Solomon Northup's story."
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street: "I'm truly honored to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association today. Getting this movie financed and off the ground was a dream of mine for over 6 years, and is a testament to the true collaboration between Red Granite, Sikelia, Appian Way and Paramount. This film would not have been possible without the genius of Martin Scorsese, and this incredibly talented cast and crew. Making 'Wolf of Wall Street' was one of the highlights of my career. Thank you again to the HFPA for their support."
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory: "Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press. I know it sounds cliche, forgive me it's early, but this is really such an embarrassment of riches. In our first episodes of Big Bang, I felt there was something special about the show but I never imagined any of this. I'm truly grateful and especially thrilled the show was nominated."
Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity: "What a great year for cinema! I'd like to congratulate my fellow nominees and, of course, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for recognizing GRAVITY with four Golden Globe nominations. I had wonderful collaborators both in front of and behind the camera who took something of a leap of faith with me years ago when we set out to make this film. I share this honor with all of them. I'm very happy too for Sandy who brought this story to life and for Steve whose score drives so much of the film's emotion, for their well-deserved nominations."
Taylor Schilling, Orange Is the New Black: "I am so incredibly thrilled to be representing this extraordinary group of actors and so proud to be a part of Jenji Kohan's brilliant vision. This is surreal."
Steve McQueen, 12 Years a Slave: "Thank you very much to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for acknowledging our efforts in making 12 Years A Slave. I am delighted for my cast and crew who worked so hard on this film to shine a light on a forgotten American hero, Solomon Northup."
Idris Elba, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Luther: "I'm truly humbled and honored to be acknowledged for two projects that, though very different from one another, are both extremely personal and special to me. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support, and I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be forever missed."
Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave: "I can't express the excitement I felt hearing my name called while listening to the nominations from Paris this afternoon. I screamed and the tears started immediately; I was so overwhelmed! I am so happy for Chiwetel, Michael, Steve, John, and Hans. 12 Years a Slave means so much to me and having the Hollywood Foreign Press recognize it as it did, is just beyond words."
Hayden Panettiere, Nashville: "I have loved working with Callie Khouri and the extraordinary cast and crew of NASHVILLE. Juliette Barnes is such an amazing character to take on and I am truly honored to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It's been an incredible morning!"
Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, 12 Years a Slave: "We want to thank the HFPA for recognizing this film, which is so dear to our hearts, and for their embrace of Solomon Northup’s story. The response to 12 Years A Slave and Dancing On The Edge from the public and media alike has been overwhelming and I am so very grateful. To have been a part of these amazing projects was a gift in itself, that the HFPA have responded in this way, truly means so much."
Beau Willimon, House of Cards: "All of us at "House of Cards" are thrilled by the nominations. It's such an honor to have the collective efforts of our wonderful cast, crew, designers, directors and writers embraced by the international community and recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press. I'm particularly happy for Kevin, Robin and Corey -- such a fierce trio of talent. They bring the best out of everyone they work with."
Bill Pohlad, 12 Years a Slave: "We thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing Steve McQueen, John Ridley, Hans Zimmer and the incredible ensemble of actors, who have brought so much to this film. It's this kind of bold filmmaking and storytelling that excites us at River Road and makes us proud to be a part of this incredible project. Special thanks to our partners at New Regency, Plan B and Fox Searchlight."
John Ridley, 12 Years a Slave: "I am so incredibly grateful for the nomination, and equally aware what so many people are responding to are the words and strength and character of Solomon Northup. It is an honor to have been part of a gifted group of artists who have brought his story to life."
Corey Stoll, House of Cards: "I've never been more lucky than to be given the chance to play a character as full of humanity and contradiction as Peter Russo. That the HFPA chose to single this performance out amongst all the great performances this year is a testimony to Beau Willimon's writing, David Finchers's vision, Kevin Spacey's leadership, the rest of the cast's talent and Netflix's courage."
