Is Taylor Swift the Queen of Pop? Jack Antonoff certainly seems to think so. During an interview with GQ to promote his solo album Strange Desire, the fun. vocalist compared the "Red" singer, 24, to none other than the late King of Pop, the iconic Michael Jackson.
Asked about the kind of music that's "doing it" for him lately, Lena Dunham's love cited Kanye West's Yeezus and Swift, with whom he cowrote the 2013 tune "Sweeter Than Fiction," from the One Chance soundtrack. "I think Taylor Swift is one of the best songwriters ever," Antonoff, 30, said of the country-pop superstar.
"Taylor Swift is cool, because she's the closest thing today that hearkens to Michael Jackson—to great, great pop music," he continued. "There's a difference between her and Gaga and Katy Perry and Lily Allen and all that. It all feels throwaway, comparatively."
This is not the first time Antonoff has sung Swift's praises. Back in 2013, he told the Associated Press that working with the Grammy-winning chanteuse made him a better musician.
"She's just like the most incredible writer and singer and performer," he raved at the time. "She feels completely unaffected by all the stuff happening around her, so working with her was like the most amazing experience...It made me better at what I do just watching her process."
Antonoff's girlfriend is a fan, too. Last year, the Girls creator told Vulture that Swift is "super-creative, an amazing role model, beautiful," and "good for the girl cause." She and the singer have become close friends; Dunham even spent July 4th with the star and her pals, including Emma Stone, Jaime King, Jessica Szohr, and Ingrid Michaelson.
