Blake Shelton Makes Gay Joke About Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal was the brunt of a gay-themed joke at the beginning of Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.
As co-hosts Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire delivered their opening monologue, the night's big honoree Taylor Swift came up.

"Don't make jokes about Taylor Swift," McEntire warned. "If you make her mad, she'll write a song about you. She writes songs about guys who break up with her."
(It's true. Swift, 21, has reportedly penned ditties about Joe Jonas, John Mayer and others.)
"Which I don't understand in the first place. She's beautiful, she's talented, she's sweet. What in the world was Jake Gyllenhaal thinking anyway?
Shelton's retort: "Wait a minute, he was in Brokeback Mountain." The country-music crowd laughed and cheered wildly at the joke, a reference to Gyllenhaal's Oscar-nominated performance as a gay cowboy opposite Heath Ledger. (Gyllenhaal, 30, and Swift broke up over New Year's after a whirlwind couple months together.)

Also mocked: LeAnn Rimes. After McEntire happily mentioned that Carrie Underwood's hockey player husband Mike Fisher was traded to Nashville's Predators, Shelton cracked, "You know who else traded husbands this year? LeAnn Rimes." (Rimes, of course, is now engaged to Eddie Cibrian, with whom she had an affair while they were both still married to other people.)

I think everyone is missing the joke all together and only focusing on the "gay" comment- the joke meant Blake thinks Taylor Swift is so amazing that Jake must be gay to break it off with her- what other reason could there be?? Big deal. Who cares what this no name idiot says. And no one really knows if he's gay or not- unless he called you up and told you.

This is pretty ridiculous to me. It's no different than the other off color jokes that are made at most award shows these days. Just because it's the Country Music Awards does not mean that those same jokes are homophobic. Chelsea Handler has one of the largest gay male audiences of any comedian. She tells gay jokes on a nightly basis and makes fun of one straight, round table guest being gay on a regular basis (Jo Koy). Where is the outrage over this? ...'oh it's different'...NO IT'S NOT! It's a joke!
And of course we all know that Reba and Blake were so shocked that an inbred redneck like Taylor would date Jake at all... I mean, he's not even her cousin. Reba is dead to me. What a tramp.

here US is again reaching for things that simply arent there. First off, Blake most likely was reading the lines off a teleprompter, lines which a write put up there. And he wasn't making a gay joke, he was making a Taylor Swift joke.
Sad that in this day and age...(regardless of Jake's sexual preference) this Blake person who most of us have never heard of...used that type of joke..despicable..obviously lives under a rock out there in Nashville..wonder what someone like Nicole Kidman thought of poor taste Brad..?
Well, duh. Of course they're going to make jokes about Brokeback Mountain when Jake Gyllenhaal shows up. Really, guys, I don't think he took it personally.
I don't think Blake was making fun of people being gay. I think he was making a joke based on the fact that so many people do think Jake is gay (I don't agree). He wasn't being anti-gay.
