Jimmy Fallon Spoofs Ryan Lochte at the 2016 MTV VMAs — and Michael Phelps Loves It

LOL! Jimmy Fallon hilariously spoofed Ryan Lochte while presenting the award for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, August 28. Watch the hilarious moment in the video above!

As the funnyman made his way on stage, Lochte’s fellow Team USA swimmer Michael Phelps — who attended the show to introduce Future‘s performance — couldn’t help but snap a pic from his seat.

Dressed in athletic gear and sporting the swimmer’s ice-blue Olympic hair color, Fallon, 41, poked fun at Lochte’s Rio robbery scandal while subtly referencing the five artists up for the night’s most prestigious honor: Justin Bieber, Adele, Kanye West, Drake and Beyoncé.

“Is it too late now to say sorry?” the late-night host began, singing along to the tune of Bieber’s hit song. “That’s my jam, that’s my jam. It should be my jam. I wrote that song. I did it. I wrote it. I produced it. I directed the video. I did. It happened. In fact, I directed all five nominees for Video of the Year.”

“What an amazing year I’ve had, it’s true. I’m the one who gave Adele the flip phone, hello? … I need to Hotline Bling that thing,” the Saturday Night Live alum continued, taking aim at Lochte’s admission that he “overexaggerated” a story about being held up at gunpoint at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro.

“I had a 30-way with Kanye West. What a year I’ve had. I made Lemonade with Queen Bey. I’m Reezy with the good hair, come on! Anyway, who had the best video of the year, I can’t tell you that,” he concluded before he eventually revealed that Bey won the coveted Moonman. “They’re all so great and so talented, I couldn’t choose. I couldn’t tell you even if there was a gun to my head. Which, there isn’t, but I couldn’t choose — I still couldn’t choose.”

As previously reported, Lochte ignited a media firestorm earlier this month after he alleged that he and teammates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and James Feigen were robbed at gunpoint at a Rio gas station. Authorities later claimed the athletes had “fabricated” the story to cover up their involvement in vandalizing the station.

“I left details out, and that’s why I’m in this mess,” the gold medalist told NBC’s Matt Lauer on August 20. “I’m just really sorry and I hope [the people of Rio] can accept my apology.”
